Dreamcast Spective
10 years have come and gone since the Dreamcast launch of 09/09/99. Not only did it make me feel old, but it also reminded me that I never actually owned a Dreamcast. It was one of those things when I was still high on the PS1 and was waiting eagerly for the PS2. I had never owned a Sega console and wasn't ready to get one just yet. Of course, we all know how quickly the Dreamcast died out, and with it, my chance at owning one. That is, until today. With all the retro stuff going on I got all hyped up and bought one off of eBay for $34.

So what I'll be bringing you over the next few weeks is not a retrospective, but instead, an honest look at how the Dreamcast and it's top tier (and bottom tier) games hold up today. I don't have the rose colored glasses that everyone else seems to have developed for the Dreamcast and I'll let you know that Sonic Adventure is not a game you should invest time in. But I'm in it for the long haul. I got a bunch of games and I plan on working through them in release date order as best I can. And I'll also throw in some more retro reviews along the way for games that I actually finish. It's going to be an interesting experiment and I hope you enjoy it as much as I'll most likely be suffering for it.

I'm just about done with Sonic's (Sonic the Hedgehog!'s) part of Sonic Adventure. Then it's off to all the other characters and their individual adventures. Thus far, nothing really works right. The camera changes at weird times, the controls always feel like you're just about to lose control, and the story is something out of someone's fanfic. I try not to bother about the graphics to much, because against the best PS1 had to offer, or N64, it was leaps and bounds beyond, even if it doesn't hold up as well as, say, Sly Cooper does.

Now, I won't give away the full list, but here's some games you can look forward to:
  • Virtua Tennis
  • Rival Schools 2
  • Chu Chu Rocket
  • Power Stone
  • Eighteen Wheeler: American Pro Trucker
  • World Series Baseball 2K2

And that's just a sampling.

As for the comic, I'm kicking it into high gear and getting as much done as possible. We'll see what happens when I get a big enough buffer, and that's only good news for you readers!
